"Persephone the Daring" Goddess Girls #11

Publisher: Aladdin
Release Date: Aug 6, 2013

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Summary from goodreads.com:

Mortal rock star Orpheus steals the spotlight in this Goddess Girls tale of love and lyres!Orpheus is a mortal rock god, and the girls at Mount Olympus Academy are wild about him! With his lyre and singing voice, Orpheus can charm pretty much anything—even things like stones and trees. But Hades and the other MOA boys aren’t charmed. In fact, they are less than thrilled that the girls are so gaga over this guy.

His fans are especially excited about his latest song about the girl he loved and lost, Eurydice. Orpheus was devastated when he lost Eurydice to the Underworld, so he asks Persephone to help get her back. Though it means breaking some very serious Underworld rules, Persephone pushes Hades to return Eurydice to the living world. But restoring Orpheus’s one true love might jeopardize Persephone’s own chances with her biggest crush...

My Review:

I love this entire series, and this is one of the best installments yet. It's definitely one of my favorites, if not my overall favorite, and that's saying something! I think I literally read this book with a huge smile on my face!

Persephone was already one of my favorite characters from the series, she's so shy and adorable, but she's actually really strong too. This book had a great story about Persephone trying to be more daring. She even made a new friend, Eurydice-Orpheus's back up singer, who was super brave. However, Persephone soon found out that Eurydice was more than daring, she was out of control! Maybe it's not such a bad thing to be the dependable one.

While the book does teach girls a valuable lesson about responsibility, there is so much fun to be had in this book, too. Orpheus is a cute pop star, who has a cute personality to boot. But fans of Persephone's cute romance with Hades need not get too nervous! It would take more than a cute mortal pop star to break up Mount Olympus' favorite couple!

I just love this series and the more books that I read, the more I love all the characters. It was great to see quite a bit of Medusa in this book. Ever since she got her own book, she's no longer 'Medusa the Mean', but she sure is spunky and so much fun to read about!

Main Characters: 5/5
Supporting Characters: 5/5

Setting: 5/5

Romance: 5/5

Uniqueness: 5/5

Bottom Line: A fantastic new addition to my favorite middle grade series. This one is a must read for fans of the books, and for new readers alike!

"Prince of Shadows"
by Rachel Caine
NAL
Release Date:  Feb 4, 2014

The following description is from barnesandnoble.com:

A thrilling retelling of the star-crossed tale of Romeo and Juliet, from the New York Times bestselling author of the Morganville Vampires series.

In the Houses of Montague and Capulet, there is only one goal: power. The boys are born to fight and die for honor and—if they survive—marry for influence and money, not love. The girls are assets, to be spent wisely. Their wishes are of no import. Their fates are written on the day they are born.

Benvolio Montague, cousin to Romeo, knows all this. He expects to die for his cousin, for his house, but a spark of rebellion still lives inside him. At night, he is the Prince of Shadows, the greatest thief in Verona—and he risks all as he steals from House Capulet. In doing so, he sets eyes on convent-bound Rosaline, and a terrible curse begins that will claim the lives of many in Verona…

…And will rewrite all their fates, forever.
Romeo and Juliet! I cannot resist this!

"A Study in Silks"
by Emma Jane Holloway
Del Rey
Release Date: Sep 24, 2013

The following description is from goodreads.com:

Evelina Cooper, the niece of the great Sherlock Holmes, is poised to enjoy her first Season in London’s high society. But there’s a murderer to deal with—not to mention missing automatons, a sorcerer, and a talking mouse.

In a Victorian era ruled by a council of ruthless steam barons, mechanical power is the real monarch, and sorcery the demon enemy of the empire. Nevertheless, the most coveted weapon is magic that can run machines—something Evelina has secretly mastered. But rather than making her fortune, her special talents could mean death or an eternity as a guest of Her Majesty’s secret laboratories. What’s a polite young lady to do but mind her manners and pray she’s never found out?

But then there’s that murder. As Sherlock’s niece, Evelina should be able to find the answers, but she has a lot to learn. And the first decision she has to make is whether to trust the handsome, clever rake who makes her breath come faster, or the dashing trick rider who would dare anything for her if she would only just ask.
Oooh, Steampunk combined with Sherlock Holmes' niece! Sounds like so much fun!
